The Characteristics of Effective Learning
It is not only what the children learn during their time with us but the way that children learn which is important. The Characteristics of Effective Learning are a key element in the EYFS. They detail the ways in which children are learning from their environment, experiences and activities. The Characteristics of Effective Learning are split into three main areas and then three sub sections within each area. These are ‘Playing and Exploring’ which shows how the child is engaging, ‘Actively Learning’ which shows the motivation behind the child’s learning, and finally ‘Creating and Thinking Critically’ this shows the thought processes behind learning and new achievements. At Yorkswood we use the Dinosaur Land scheme as a way of making these characteristics easy for the children to understand and talk about. These are available to view in the documents section below.
