Maths

We use the Power Maths scheme to support our teaching of Maths in Reception. These schemes give the children opportunities to explore mathematical ideas in ways that make sense to them and opportunities to develop mathematical concepts and understanding. The overview for each term is available in the documents section at the bottom of this page.

Teaching includes short adult-led sessions, group activities and games that support the development of early number strategies. Alongside this children are given opportunities to follow their own interests through play. Staff support in moving children forward in their thinking throughout their play.

Children at Yorkswood have access to Mathletics, a fun online tool which children can use to access weekly Maths homework as well as playing lots of Maths based games to further develop their knowledge. Children earn points for using Mathletics and work hard to earn certificates which are awarded in our weekly assembly.
