Yorkswood
Primary School
Year 2
At Yorkswood Primary School during Key Stage 1 children listen carefully and respond physically to a wide range of music. They play tuned and untuned musical instruments and sing a variety of songs, adding accompaniments and creating short compositions, with increasing confidence, imagination and control.
In each lesson children have the opportunity to listen to and appraise songs from different historical periods and cultures, thinking about how the music makes them feel, act and move.
They also explore and enjoy how sounds and silence can create different moods and effects.
Each half term, the children learn a new song with the opportunity to play tuned and untuned instruments.
In year 2 children will learn and use these songs:
Autumn One – Hands, Feet, Heart
Autumn Two – Ho, Ho, Ho
Spring One – I Wanna Play in a Band
Spring Two – Zoo Time
Summer One – Friendship Song
Summer Two – Reflect, Replay and Rewind
