Yorkswood’s History Intent

Through the History Curriculum at Yorkswood Primary school, we strive to inspire a sense of curiosity within our children. All children will have a secure chronological understanding and knowledge of British history across the periods studied, including ancient civilisations to the present day, with a variety of overviews of a period and in-depth studies to understand the history of the wider world. Children will develop an historical perspective by placing their growing knowledge into different contexts, understanding the connections between local, regional, national and international history. We teach children the skills needed to interpret historical evidence and provide them with opportunities to understand historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, and use these to make connections, draw contrasts and pose their own historical questions. School visits, visitors and themed days are used within the History curriculum to develop a deeper understanding of the time periods studied and to inspire the children so that they have a lifelong love of History.
